Grafting.

Our pledge to be more respectful to our environment has lead us to use grafted nursery in all of our renovation projects. Using the roots of robusta allows us to have a natural resistance to nematodes an other soil borne plagues. The upper part of our arabica plants are cut and then inserted on to the roots of robusta plants.

Integrated Shade Management.

We actively measure and manage the shade in all of our farms through the year, letting it grow during our sunny season and trimming it down during the cloudy rainy season to allow the proper amount of sunlight to reach the trees. We are careful not to trim too much of the tree as they are home to many bird species.

Cultivar experimentation.

There are many different varieties of the coffea arabica species and each have their own benefits and pitfalls. We are currently testing several varieties in San Fernando to answer hard questions in coffee growing. Pest control, yield, cup and leaf rust management are some of the most important traits we look when choosing a variety to renovate a plot.
